Program
Recreational Pilot Permit (RPP)
The RPP is the fastest, lowest-cost way to legally fly an aircraft in Canada. You can carry one passenger, fly day VFR, and operate single-engine aircraft up to 4 seats. Many students start here, then upgrade to a full PPL later.
What's required
- Minimum 25 hours flight time (Transport Canada minimum)
- Category 4 medical (signed by your family doctor — fast)
- Ground school covering the RPPAE written exam
- Transport Canada flight test
RPP vs PPL
The RPP is half the hours and lets you fly with one passenger, day VFR only. A PPL takes 45+ hours but lets you carry passengers, fly cross-country, and add ratings like instrument or night.
